The Religion

Are the people of Mongolia Buddhists? Schamans? Please take a trip to Mongolia, and learn to know what modern Mongolians believe in. Many rituals and costums are as vibrant and alive as in earlier times. Particularly as guest of a Mongolian family in the country you will have the opportunity to experience the hospitality and friendlyness of the people towards their neighbours and foreign guests. This is also the best way to learn to understand their rituals and costums.

The Languages

The number of gutturals and a peculiar way of intonation give the Mongolian language an ideosyncratic character. During the communist era the Russian language was introduced as administrative language, as well as cyrillic writing. As a consequence, the Mongolian language was written with cyrillic letters, too. Nowadays, the traditional Mongolian writing is taught at school again. However, in the future the cyrillic writing is likely to take over.

The Nutrition

The Mongolian people appreciate fat lamb. The most important beverage is made from milk of mares and yaks (long-haired cattle). In some regions the milk of camels, goats and sheep is consumed. The very peculiarly tasting and also fatty tea, which is served and consumed at any time, is not sweet but salty. Curd, a type of saltless cheese produced without rennet and served in many ways, thickened sour cream and butter play an essential role in the daily menu of the Mongolians.
