Politics & Economy

Form of Government

Since autumn 96 the previous opposition has gained power in parliament with a large majority. After many decades of communist power Mongolia finally made its way into democracy. Both Parliament as well as the President of Mongolia are elected democratically by the people.

The Regional Areas

The administrative structure counts 18 regional aymags and 3 city aymags.

The Economy

The population of Mongolia has started to utilise its new freedom when the communists ceased to rule the country. The trade with neighbouring countries is paramount. Many Mongolians try to compensate their meagre earnings from employment with private commerce. Export commodities are sheep skins and hides from other animals, wool from various animals, sheep meat, sheep guts, etc. Some mineral resources are exported, though in small quantities and too little to improve the livelihood of the lowest income earners.
